The municipality of Başyayla (4,208 inhabitants in 2012, 2,159 in the town proper; 37,421 ha) is located 70 km south-west of Karaman.

The flag of Başyayla (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem in the middle. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".
The emblem of the municipality features two cherries, highlighting a main source of income for the town, which organizes every year a Cherry Festival.
