On the "Great Orthenfiesta", 24 Apr 2005 the Orthen Society revealed
the "Gemeintvlag" after a mess in the San Salvator church. The flag
has a yellow field with three red mill-irons. The flag has been designed
after an idea of the Heemkundekring de Orthense Schaar. Research revealed
that a coat of arms like that had been used by "a lord of Brabant".
The "villa Orthen" is already mentioned in 815, that is before
the foundation of "s-Hertogenbosch. "Villa" means here: estate.
The duke of Brabant used it as a hunting-domain, which was referred to
as "het bos van de hertog" (the woods of the duke), hence: "des
hertogen bosch" --> "-Hertogenbosch.

I had a closer look at this
website and concluded that the three mill-irons had been miraculously
transformed into 6 red half-circles and 3 icehockey-pucks.
