The coat of arms was adopted on 23 January 2002, being designed by Juan Manuel López Galindo and adopted through a contest. Over a scroll, above the shield is the name "MUNICIPIO TRANCOSO". Below, a ribbon reading "Un pasado de lucha es porvenir de buena ventura" [A past of struggle is a future of good luck]. The border reads "I I MM"; 1 January 2000, the year it became a municipality. To the sides are columns remembering it is strong and firm. The upper-left depicts a crown for the Spanish era and a Phrygian cap as a symbol of liberty, since it is today a free municipality. Dividing the upper sections is a hand as a sign of presence, strong and firm. The upper-right section depicts an open book and feather, signifying new history is being written. The eye signifies that it is vigilant, looking for good for its people. The lower section depicts the Mesa Alta Hill and a ploughed valley recognizing the agricultural industry.
