The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted in June 1989, being adopted through a contest in the time of the National Fair of Cheese and wine; the name of the author is unknown. Description as recognized by the council and in the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations:

The Sun: Symbol of life. [above the shield]
[The shield is divided into three sections, having a band in the center reading TEQUISQUIAPAN; in the upper section:] The cornucopia: Appears represented by a basket made of sticks, whose knitting is artisanal and has the form of a horn; this image signifies the type off work which gives sustenance to an important nucleus of artisan and commercial families of the town.
The grape [cluster]: Distinctive fruit of family orchards in the region, tradition for many years which is conserved thanks to the natural conditions which make Tequisquiapan an ideal land for this cultive.
[In the lower-left section:] The river: The history of Tequisquiapan has had a very profound relationship since its foundation with water; its inhabitants have found in the river the source of life, which can be observed by the rich vegetation where the big trees are highlighted framing its cause. A bridge crosses it in stone of Romanesque type, which represents the creativity of the man in his work. This motive symbolizes the tradition and culture of the Tequisquiapenses.

[Lower-right section:] The Parish of Santa María de la Asunción: Represents the moral force which sustains the everyday life of the majority of the people of the town which profess Catholicism; ancestral heritage of the Spanish missionaries in the 16th century and which lasts currently in our time.
