The coat of arms of Salamanca was adopted in 1907. Although it was declared a city in 1895, it did not have a coat of arms and sought to adopt one to make up for this. The city decided to adopt the design made a few years prior by Municipal President Pedro González Gasca, and was published in the weekly newspaper "La Crisalida". In 1981, it was adopted officially for use in all municipal offices. Over the shield, which has a background of parchment, a gray helmet with feathers is seen for its history. In the center of the parchment is a shield, with a border that reads "ALI QUANDO VERUM FIRME" [FIRM IN THE TRUTH]. It is divided into four quadrants. The upper-left quadrant depicts a column representing faith and the founding of the city. The upper-right section depicts three dice for luck. The lower-left section depicts an arrow crossed with a sword signifying the union between the Indian and Spanish cultures. The lower-right section depicts a tower, representing the fortitude of the Villa of Salamanca during the Spanish colonial era.
