Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of Súchil was adopted in 1997 through a contest from the municipal president, the Secretary of Education, Culture, and Sport of the Municipality, and the public library "Xóchitl", being designed by Lorenzo Chávez Hernández. It was registered to the State Coordination of Chroniclers of the State of Durango on 5 November 2001. Shield bordered in silver, the background depicts the Papantón Hill as the background to a grassland with the confluence of two rivers into the Súchil River. To the left, a profile view of Francisco de Ibarra, and to the right an Indian, with a flower in the middle; this remembers the story of the municipality's name, as the Indian was caught by surprise while picking flowers, and when asked about the area's name she said "Xochitl" meaning flower in English believing that was what he asked about. At the top a ribbon reads "El Valle de Súchil", the valley. At the confluence, a cross with a sword and axe crossed together; these remember religion and conflict, respectively.
