Presentation of Kaštela

Kaštela is made of seven smaller settlements located on the coast just north of Split, each being named Kaštel with an additional attribute; Kaštel means, of course, "castle" or "fort", Kaštela is the plural form.
The municipalities of Split, Solin and Kaštela formed until 1993 the Civic Assembly of the Municipalities of Split (Gradska zajednica općina Split).

Flag of Kaštela

The symbols of Kaštela are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Kaštela, adopted on 7 August 2009 by the Town Council and published in 10 August 2009 in the Town official gazette Službeni glasnik Grada Kaštela, No. 9 (text). This appears to be the consolidated text of the 2001 Statutes with subsequent amendments (2001, 2002 and 2006).

The flag of Kaštela is in proportions 2:1 (vertical), blue with the emblem in the middle and the name of the town below on two lines, "GRAD / KAŠTELA".
Most probably, neither the flag nor the emblem was approved by the Ministry of Administration.

The "coat of arms" is described in Article 6 of the Town Statutes as "rectangular in the original size of 80 x 90 mm, containing seven stylized towers (castles) in its central part, as the symbol of Kaštela, and the base and stylized waves beneath where word KAŠTELA is inscribed in capitals and with stylized roof above the central tower, as the symbol of the Town and with the historical national coat of arms beneath (!) the roof". It is said to be surrounded with "white Gothic squares" and is defined to be produced golden on a white background.
In spite of the mentioned Gothic squares and the national coat of arms "beneath" the roof, the official gazettes use the "coat of arms" of Kaštela indeed in the shape shown above, as can be seen on the municipal website.

The emblem of the municipality of Kaštela was adopted some time in the 1970s, and is basically the same as the one used nowadays, with a five-pointed star instead of the checky shield at the top, most probably.
