Elsterberg Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a castle Argent masoned Sable, between two towers with cone roofs Gules a magpie statant proper on the wall.
Meaning:
The local castle was first mentioned in 1198. The settlement below was acquired by the Margraves of Meißen in 1354 and first mentioned as a city in 1354 and as a walled city in 1380. A mint was established in 1401. In 1547 it belonged to the Vogtland (= land of the reeves) and to the Electorate of Sachsen since 1569. Around 1460 the oldest city seal displayed only a castle with two towers. The magpie as a canting element was added in 1896, recommended by the Main State Archives in Dresden.
