Neusorg Coat of Arms

Shield Or, in base two mattocks Sable in saltire, in centre a demi-stag salient Gules, chief embattled Sable.
The mattocks (German: Reuthauen) are canting elements, as both settlement cores of the municipality, Riglasreuth and Schwarzenreuth, the old name of Neusorg until 1949, had been established by forest clearance in the Medieval. Riglasreuth and Neusorg merged in 1978. The demi-stag is a differentiation of the family arms of the Barons of Hirschberg, who owned the district of the Ebnath-Schwarzenreuth Estate from 1448 until 1797. The chief, having the tinctures of the arms of the Palatine Counts of Rhine, is representing Riglasreuth. In Riglasreuth there had been a parish church and a castle. It had been a Palatine fiefdom, before it was acquired by the barons.
