Oschatz Coat of Arms

Shield Or a lion rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules, between three facetted 6-point stars Gules ordred 2:1.
Meaning:
In Oschatz had been a settlement of traders since around 1150. The Margraves of Meißen founded a new market town in the 13th century as a rival of Dahlen, a city, which belonged to the Bishopric of Meißen. Oschatz was called a city since 1350. The exitence of the arms is proven since 1478. The tinctures were finally fixed in 1896. The lion is the heraldic animal of the margraves. The stars had just been accessory parts. They appeared first on a local seal print from 1387 and were kept since then as a distinguishing mark.
