Nordhausen Coat of Arms

Shield Or an eagle Sable, crowned Or, armed and tongued Gules. In the greater arms the shield is crested by a tilt helm Argent with scarves of Or and Sable, topped by two buffalo horns charged with six linden branches Or.
Meaning:
Nordhausen gained the rights of a market town together with a mint in 962, the status of a Free Imperial city in 1220. The city was walled in 1290. The arms display the imperial eagle. He appeared first on a city seal from 1336, not crowned but crested with the helm of the Landgraviate of Thüringen. Also the flag colours are the imperial colours.
