Betzenstein Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a fess Azure, in centre an inescutcheon, parted per pale, at dexter Or a demi-eagle Sable couped per pale armed Or and tongued Gules, at sinister bendy of six of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
In 1359 the village gained city rights and market rights, granted by the Landgrave of Leuchtenberg. The rights remained defunct but in 1611 Betzenstein finally became a city. The oldest seal from 1395 just displayed the shield with fess, the family arms of the Leuchtenberg kin. After the city was acquired by the City of Nürnberg in 1505 the lesser arms of Nürnberg, displayed in the inescutcheon, were added. This pattern prevaioled since 1806. Local seals from the 19th century displayed the lesser arms of Nürnberg alone.
