Dutch company Unity Chartering “is a privately owned company established
in 1978 as shipbrokers and rapidly expanded to offer services as port agents,
freight contractors and ship managers of coasters” – quote found on the
firm’s website: We learn that about 20
ships are “owned, managed or longterm time-chartered (...) and are mainly
trading with steels, general cargoes, project cargoes, grains, animal feed
and fertilizers in bulk or bagged”.
Unity Chartering sends its ships all over the world but is expanding
on inland waterways as well, specifically naming the Seine and Rhone rivers
(France), the Rhine (Germany), and the Albert Canal (Belgium).
Lastly, the firm – located at Papendrecht near the Oude Maas River,
to the SE of Rotterdam - acts as a broker and port agent.
The fleet list shows how a number of vessels is Dutch registered whereas
others fly the flags of Malta, Antigua and Barbuda, the Dutch Antilles,
Poland, the Bahamas, Panama, or Latvia.
Shown on the site as a drawing and on a photo, the house flag is dark
blue bearing a chain (five rings, the three central ones closed) placed
vertically in the hoist and large white initials ‘UCS’ (no serifs) in the
fly; all the charges are white.
