Viken is a county in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the forced merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities.
Valentin Poposki, 16 January 2020
The merger was opposed in all three counties which were to merge
both before and after the implementation - even the local government
has made the reversal its main goal.
As a result, it was decided by
the national parliament in 2022 that the merger be reversed. On
2024-01-01, Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold counties were
re-established and their original arms were readopted; since their
flags had actually been banners of arms, they were automatically
readopted as well.
The flag was blue with a simple
logo comprised of a white shield with four blue shapes and the name in white. I
saw it on a digital county graphics manual that is no longer there. Apparently,
it disappeared from the Web with the abolition of that county. I don't think it
was ever used in public.
