Approved by the royal resolution of 2 October 1992, after a drawing by Stein Davidsen (http://www.hemsedal.kommune.no/om-hemsedal-kommune/organisasjonskart-hemsedal-kommune/ )
The above site also explains that the municipality wanted an animal in its arms, to represent its wildlife, but there was no special reason why they chose the lynx among other possibilities, other than it is one of animals appearing in the municipal fauna.
