When Zegveld and Kamerik were incorporated into Woerden on 1 Jan 1989
the old Woerden flag was abolished. The saltire is of Kamerik and the horn
of Zegveld, so that all former municipalities were represented in the new
flag. After Harmelen was incorporated no change took place. Curious...

Job van Meijere, spokesman of the CDA group at the Municipal Council,
formally required the municipal flag to be "completed". Harmelen would
be represented by a red diamond placed in lower fly.

Harmelen is the result of a merger of the former municipalities of Gerverscop,
Harmelen and Indijk in 1857.
On 1 Jan 1989 the former municipalities of Kamerik, Woerden and Zegveld merged to form the new municipality of Woerden. The municipality kept the former flag (adopted 13 May 1954).
Kamerik is the result of the merger of the former municipalities of Kamerik-Mijzijde, Kamerik-Houtdijken, 's-Gravesloot and Teckop in 1857. Flag adopted 21 Jun 1960.
