Flag and coat of arms could be seen at www.explored.com.ec.
Jarig Bakker, 26 Jan 2001
The flag is shown on a photo taken on 21 February 2007 and contributed to Flickr on 25 March 2007 by "fotospresidencia2". The flag on the left of the photo is the provincial flag of Esmeraldas, but with the coat of arms added in the middle. The flags displayed on the stand are expected to be official since the visitor was Rafael Correa, President of the Republic.
Ivan Sache, 29 December 2009
According to a report by Ivan Sache, 29 Dec 2009, the flag does include the coat of arms on its middle. The reported photo shows a smallish size for it, the width of the shield top visibly shorter than its distance to the flag top edge. For this design I used the coat of arms image by Jarig Bakker, 26 Jan 2001.

French shield fimbriated golden, in front a man seen from behind holding a
torch flamed red by his risen right arm, behind the man's head an impending
cornucopia, at either edge banana trees, behind the man a bunch of green bananas
at sinister and other fruit fallen(?) from the cornucopia, in background a blue
sea under a blue sky with a rising yellow sun. The cornucopia usually is
symbolising abundance, rising sun and torch may refer to liberation, but that is
only speculative.

Esmeraldas Canton and City, full name: San Mateo de las Esmeraldas, capitol of the canton and the province as well, share their symbols with the province. "Esmeraldas" means "emeralds", the green stripe on the flags is thus representing the name.
