Ottawa Redblacks Logo Flags
(design based on this photo)
On this page:
The Ottawa Redblacks (Le Rouge et Noir d'Ottawa) are a fairly new professional football team competeing in the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). They were organized in Ottawa (Ontario Province) and started playing in 2014, but they are actually the third rugby-football team to play in the city and have a long history dating back to 1876 as the Ottawa Rough Riders (who had an amazing 120 year run). As the Rough Riders they were a founding member of the CFL in 1958 and after years of ownership and management issues disbanded in 1996. They returned to the CFL in 2002 as the Ottawa Renegades with a new Ottawa franchise, but once again ownership and management controversies forced them ceased operations prior to the 2006 CFL season. The players were placed on a dispersal draft and the Ottawa CFL franchise was up for sale once again.
They have re-emerged again as the the Ottawa Redblacks (1) in 2014. They played their first regular-season away game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers losing 36-28, but came back on their first home game to defeat the visiting Toronto Argonauts in a nail-bitter 18-17. The Redblacks, like most expansion teams, struggled the rest of their first season and finished last in the East Division with a 2-16 record. Amazingly enough they would reach the Grey Cup championships twice in the next two seasons, winning the East Division Championship both years, but losing the 103rd Grey Cup to the Edmonton Eskimos 26-20. The following year they won the 104th Grey Cup in over-time against the favored Calgary Stampeders 39-33, becoming the first Ottawa team to do so in 40 years. The last Grey Cup win for the city had been in 1981 by the Rough Riders.
Today there exists a traditional Ottawa rivalry with the Montreal Alouettes, whom they play every year in the Labour Day Classic, and a divisional rivalry exists with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Toronto Argonauts. However, their main Grey Cup rival remains the Calgary Stampeders.
The Home field of the Redblacks is at TD Place Stadium (2014-present); their team colors are the traditional red, black, and white; and their mascot is Big Joe (Grand Jos).

Note: Be aware that there are a host of manufacturer's variants of fan flags being marketed for Stamps fans. This would also include garden flags, banners, and pennants.

Footnote #1 - The Rough Riders name was still owned by the previous Rough Riders owner and his asking price for the name, logo and wordmarks was too high for the new management. That and the fact that the Saskatchewan Roughriders objected to once again having two teams with similar names, and that it was really confusing to some fans, eventual led to the name of Redblacks chosen for the new franchise.

The Ottawa Redblacks Football team has had only one primary logos since its first season 2014. For you enthusiasts, I recommend you visit Sports Logos.net to see and learn about more design variants used. The importance of knowing team logos and their dating is it is helpful when dating or typing flags, banners and uniforms.

These Ottawa Redblacks wordmark logos are also sometimes used as alternate logos (usually in conjunction with Mascot Logos) on flags, publications and websites. They are helpful for flag scholars in dating or typing flags (throwback, etc.)

Fan Flags are commercially manufactured flags either officially approved or licensed by a team or, unfortunately, in some cases, they might be illegal "ripoffs." There are also non-commercial one-of-a-kind handmade fan variants in use. They come in many styles, both vertical and horizon, and many variants exist. Designs are available with various horizontal and vertical strip patterns and design elements, but these flags all use some common design elements: usually a team logo, or a team helmet, and generally use the team colours of red, black, and white.

The use of a single Ottawa Redblacks logo is a fairly common motif of Horsemen fan flags, but why not a herd of three?.
