Hamilton Tiger Cats Logo Flags

On this page:
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are a professional Canadian football team that play in the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). They are based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and play their home games at Tim Hortons Field. In 1950, the Hamilton Tigers merged with their cross-town rivals the Hamilton Wildcats and the merged teams adopted the name "Tiger-Cats." Since their founding in 1950 they have had a total of eight Grey Cup wins playing as one team. Interestingly enough, although the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club Franchise recognizes all Grey Cup Championships won by any Hamilton-based teams as part of their history, the CFL does not. Previous to the merger the Hamilton Alerts won the first championship for Hamilton in 1912 at the 4th Grey Cup, the Hamilton Flying Wildcats (a short-lived replacement team during World War II) had the second, and the Hamilton Tigers had five. However, the CFL does not recognize these early wins under the current franchise, which would have allowed their wins to total 15 championships. Even so the Hamilton football clubs have won league championships in every decade of the 20th century. Sadly no Hamilton team has won a championship in the first two decades of the 21st century. This is the longest Grey Cup drought amongst all the CFL teams.
The arch-rivals of the Tiger-Cats have been the Toronto Argonauts since 1873 when the Argonauts defeated the Hamilton Football Club by a goal at the University of Toronto. Since 1948 the teams meet at the annual Labour Day Classic. Hamilton has won 31 times and Toronto has 15 wins. Since 1996 the teams play one game hosted in Hamilton, then a second game in Toronto a week later as they are only 51 km (about 31 ½ miles) apart.
Since the Montreal Alouettes, the Ottawa Redblacks, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers also all are claimed to be Tiger-Cats "rivals," about half of the CFL teams don't "play well" with the Tiger-Cats.

Note: Be aware that there are a host of manufacturer's variants of these and other fan flags being marketed for Tiger Cats fans. This includes garden flags, banners, and pennants.

Note #1 - These Hamilton Tiger-Cats Wordmark Logos are sometimes used as alternate logos (usually in conjunction with Mascot Logos) on publications and websites. Variants exist, usually adding the name "Hamilton" above the letters of "Tiger-Cats."

These commemorative flags celebrate the 8 Grey Cup championships of the Hamilton in 1953, 1957, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1972, 1986, and 1999. These are the equivalent of 8 American NFL Superbowl victories.

A throwback or retro flag uses one the older Hamilton logos in its design. Naturally they can also be an actual antique flags, rather than ones of modern manufacture. These are examples of these retro type flags.

Fan Flags are commercially manufactured flags either officially approved or licensed by a team or, unfortunately, in some cases, they might be illegal "ripoffs." There are also non-commercial one-of-a-kind handmade fan variants in use. They come in many styles, both vertical and horizon, and many variants exist. Designs are available with various horizontal and vertical strip patterns and design elements, but these flags all use some common design elements: usually a team logo, or a team helmet, and generally in the team colours of green, gold, and white, although recently black seems to have made an appearance.

Fan flags are available for the Tiger Cats both in vertical and horizontal formats. Fan flags featuring Tiger Cats helmets are especially popular.

These Tiger Cats fan flags are less for displaying at games or on flag poles, but more for the walls of home "man cave."
