Description of the flag

White field, lower blue horizontal stripe. On white a large red letter A showing a white star in the center. Over it is arched AUSTIN COUNTY, and below ESTABLISHED 1837, both in blue. As stated at stated at members.aol.com/_ht_a/txflags/austin.html:

"In preparation for the 150th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Austin County, Jim Bishop, chairman of the Austin County Historical Commission, designed the flag that the Commissioners' Court adopted on 20 April 1987 to represent the county. The flag was first officially hoisted on 1 June 1987 at the County Courthouse. A unique aspect of this flag is that the names of the county's communities, or an appropriate motto, may be added in white lettering to the blue stripe."

The number of flag poles at the welcome sign has been reduced from three to two. I noticed that in all Commissioners Halls now are posted only two flags - US and Texas. Also, in front of the official buildings are waving the same two flags only, no matter if county/city has its own flag or not. It seems to me that there is some process going on that is expelling the local flags from the official buildings, maybe by law, or maybe by recommendation.

I called the Austin County Librarian, who said that she is unaware of such of a flag, she has never seen it, but that she will research this matter and get back to me.
