Erlinsbach

[Flag of Erlinsbach] by Pascal Gross

Tierced and parted by a bend wavy Argent issuant from this a bend sinister Sable on Or then Azure having a five-pointed mullet of the First in base dexter.

There are two Erlinsbachs, separated by the Erzbach brook, which is also the border between Solothurn and Aargau canton. And it's also a denominational border: Erlinsbach SO is Catholic, Erlinsbach AG (formerly Obererlinsbach and Niedererlinsbach) is Protestant.
The local conditions are such that the paths taken by churchgoers from these villages ran along the border stream. Every Sunday, the two groups met at this spot – and it is said that things did not always proceed in a calm and civilised manner across the stream.
