Shield is parted per pale, at dexter Or a demi-bull's head Sable couped per pale, crowned by a demi fleur-de lis Or couped per pale, armed Argent and tongued Gules, at sinister barry of ten of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
Prince Borwin II of Rostock gained the Wustrow country as a Pomeranian fiefdom. He granted the rights of a market town to Penzlin in 1226. In 1236 the Dukes of Pommern ceded the country to the Margraves of Brandenburg (Treaty of Kremmen). Lord Nikolaus I of Werle gained the country as a fiefdom of Brandenburg. In 1263 he granted city rights according to the Schwerin pattern. The city was conquered by Brandenburg around 1276 and gained a few privileges by the margraves. From 1291 until 1304 the city was ruled by Lord Heinrich II of Werle. In 1436 the city became a dominion of Duchy of Mecklenburg. The dukes enfeoffed the Maltzan kin with Penzlin in 1501. The members of the kin remained local rulers until 1918.
The arms are based on a city seal with prints since 1328. The demi bull' head is a differentiation of the arms of the Lords of Werle, the sinister half is taken from the family arms of the Askanian kin, because the wife of Nikolaus I was a member of the Askanians. The tinctures however are those of Brandenburg
