Meaning:
Known depictions mismatch the blazon by showing a very small fountain in the middle, against the letter of the law (Chapter II, section I, article §10-e of the infamous Law no. 53/91 of 7 August 1991,; it stands for the local spa resort Pedras Salgadas.
One of the settlements within the territory of this commune is Pedras Salgadas, which was granted town status in 1999. It is not the seat (nor namesake) of any local administration subdivision, which was almost unheard of until the late 1980s, and is still unusual given that the commune, Bornes de Aguiar, where it´s located is a village (aldeia). That is the status under that of town (itself under city) no legal document refers to, although it´s in common parlance. However, all thisis in terms of nomenclature and legal instruments: On the map, the built up areas of these two settlements, Bornes de Aguiar and Pedras Salgadas, are conterminous and the line dividing them is tenuous, settled by the municipal land management plan (P.D.M.), and not a communal/municipal border. It could be changed at any time, leading to a confuse situation in terms of toponimy and allowing for four-tower versions of the CoA to be upheld as correct, even if not official.

Bornes de Aguiar was one of the 12 communes of Vila Pouca de Aguiar Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes ; it had 1933 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 41,30 km².
