Newark and Sherwood is a local government district located in Nottinghamshire, England. A merger of the municipal borough of Newark with the Newark Rural District and the Southwell Rural District in 1974 established the new district. It was originally called just Newark, but the name was changed in 1995. The district is predominantly rural with three towns named Newark-on-Trent, Southwell and Ollerton. It also contains part of the famous Sherwood Forest of Robin Hood fame within its borders.

The logo was introduced at the end of the 1980s, and features a green tree shape - for Sherwood Forest - above a blue squiggle - probably representing the River Trent. The tree shape is "inset" (the council's words) by the silhouettes of Newark
Castle and Southwell Minster Church.
