Introduction of Freie Vereinigung der Tourensegler Grünau 1898 e.V.

The club was established in 1898 as "Segel-Club 1898 e.V." and was originally based in Köpenick. Probably due to change of its base to Grünau it was renamed to "Freie Vereinigung der Tourensegler Grünau 1898 e.V." shortly after. In 1933 the club was enforced by the NS-government to rename itself to "Touren-Segler Grünau von 1898" (TSG 1898). Club and fleet survived WW2 more or less without serious losses. Racing was restarted in 1946. In 1949 the club was registered by the communist authorities. In 1952 the club merged with two other sailing groups and other water sports clubs, among those at least one rowing club. The new entity was called "Sportgemeinschaft Grünau" (SGG). The community was not powered by any GDR company and survived alone by the diligence and enterprise of its members. It was dissolved after the end of the GDR in 1990. The rowing section became Rudergemeinschft Grünau, the sailing section re-adopted its old name "Freie Vereinigung der Tourensegler Grünau 1898 e.V.". Grünau is located on the Dahme Langer See ("the long lake of the river Dahme"), in the former East Berlin.

This burgee - and a few others - are clearly inspired in the Imperial war ensign. I assume that all those clubs were established at least before WW2.

The yacht club website also showed (editorial note: in 2005) a pennant similar to the Israeli flag. The white pennant was parted by two blue horizontal lines with a blue 6-point star in its centre.

(editorial note: information couldn't be verified, looks like pennant version of the flag of , a rowing club, kms 9 Oct 2012)
