In 1971 the municipalities of Krempel, Holßel, Hymendorf and Neuenwalde formed the comprehensive municipality (Samtgemeinde) of Neuenwalde, which was however dissolved in 1974 and incorporated into Langen City . Langen merged with Bederkesa Comprehensive Municipality in 2015, establishing the new city of Geestland. It had 30 936 inhabitants in 2015 and covers 356.6 km².

The shield was red, issuant from base a a goldendemi-lion, in chief a silver key set in fess.
Meaning:
Key and demi-lion already appeared in seals from the 18th century. The key is alluding to the City of Bremen. The citizens of Bremen had defeated the Dukes of Saxe-Lauenburg in 1381 and conquered castle and market town. In 1654 the town became a Swedish dominion, in 1735 part of the Electorate of Hannover. The modified lion is alluding to the Werlfen-kin, rulers of the electorate. The current version of the arms was created in 1948.

Meaning:
The barrulet wavy is representing Weser River. Sun-wheel and urn are representing the numerous archaeological excavations in the commune.
