According to a blog on local municipal flags, the flag has been official since August 26, 2006, as well as its coat of arms. Red represents the colorfulness of the municipality's culture, while green symbolizes the natural wealth which extends from the municipality to the entire region. The central device depicts the sun rising over the Cerro Duida. It is seen behind a Salesian mission, which was founded in 1940. On the flag, in front of the mission is an aircraft landing strip beside the Orinoco River in blue.
