Overview

The flag of the U.S. National Security Agency features the NSA seal on a blue field. The seal is rather self-explanatory, featuring the American eagle with a "shield in American colors" on its chest, and holding a silver key in its talons. The words "NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY" arch around the top of the seal, with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" across the bottom.

Flag seen in photo

There is a new Intelligence Community flag that appears to have only come into use within the last year. The National Security Agency is the signals intelligence gathering agency of the US federal government. It is a combat support agency within the Department of Defense. Its flag is well-known, and is shown at the top of this page.

The NSA primarily supports civilian decision makers in the White House and elsewhere. The NSA has a "twin" agency as well though, that integrates and provides cryptologic support to the military services. This agency is known as the Central Security Service.

In formal ceremonies at NSA as recently as mid-2022, the flags of US Cyber Command, the NSA and 4-star Army rank flag were visible.

In photos beginning in May 2023, the flags of the CYBERCOM. the NSA, the CSS and the 4-star rank flag were used.

The CSS seal and flag were previously unknown prior to this. They are very similar to the NSA seal and flag, and the same shade of blue is used (Bluebird, PMS 542)
