Description of the Flag

"Monongah is a town in Marion County, West Virginia along the West Fork River. The population was 939 at the 2000 census. Monongah was incorporated in 1891 by  Circuit Court. Its name is abbreviated from Monongahela, the river formed by the confluence of the West Fork and Tygart Valley Rivers a few miles north of the town." - from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monongah,_West_Virginia

"The Monongah Community Improvement Association held a contest to design an official town flag recently. Longtime Monongah resident Jim Rogers with his son Jim "Zeke" Rogers designed and drew the winning entry. His wife Nancy also helped in the design. Monongah flag is adorned in red and black, the official school colors of the old Monongah High School Lions football team. The freehand drawing depicts Monongah's old high school, the town hall, a church steeple, fireman's helmet, coal car, and the Monongah mine-disaster bell, with the Monongah roaring lion overlooking all." - from: einhornpress.com/TheMonongahFlag.aspx, including image of the flag.
