Description of the flag

On a recent trip to Madison, Virginia, I found that the county had recently adopted a flag. A picture of the flag was in the local newspaper, and I've recreated it for you here. Apparently, the county had hired a local woman back in 1999 to design a flag for the county. After two years of work, the woman created the attached design, which was adopted by the Madison County Board of Supervisors. The flag is a white field with the county seal centered on it. The county seal features the county courthouse, located in the town of Madison, flanked by shrubs. The courthouse was designed by Thomas Jefferson. Beneath the courthouse, in orange, is the date "1792," which is the year that Madison County was created out of neighboring Culpeper County. The courthouse is surrounded by fifteen orange stars, indicating that Madison was Virginia's 15th county. And the name of the county appears on a scroll beneath the courthouse.
