Greensville County is in southeastern Virginia along the border with North Carolina. The county was formed in 1781 from neighboring Brunswick County and is named after either Sir Richard Grenville, who led the settlement of Roanoke Island in 1585, or Continental Army Major General Nathanael Greene; the record is unclear on the subject. The county seat is in the independent
city of Emporia.
The flag of Greensville County can be seen in photographs of the 2016 Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) annual conference. The flag shows the county logo centered on a white field. In the photographs, the flag has a gold fringe. The logo shows an image of the Greensville County courthouse displayed in an oval and flanked by trees. Small banners on either side of the oval proclaim the year "1781" in green characters, while a small banner at the top of the oval has the words "COUNTY OF" also in green letters. The oval sits above the words "GREENSVILLE" and ".VIRGINIA." in larger, green, capital letters.
