Bath, Virginia, was named after the city of the same name in England, and for the same reason: it is the site of thermal springs which were supposed to have therapeutic qualities. There is a whole swathe of such spa towns along the western edge of the Shenandoahs, including Hot Springs, Virginia, and White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
