The Village Board of Trustees
announced the results of the Village Flag Design Contest at Monday night’s
meeting, as voting on the People’s Choice component of the project concluded the
weekend before.
With 149 votes
received, Ava Shinaver’s flag design submission received 51% of the public’s
support. In second place was Hunter Nelson’s design with 18.1%, followed by Rivo
Strakosh’s design receiving 15.4%, and Zoe Hendrickson’s submission garnering
6.7% of votes. Additionally, 8.7% of participants in the poll chose “None of the
Above.”
“I am very happy with how this project turned out,” commented
Village of Middleburgh Mayor Timothy Knight. He continued, “Ava did a beautiful
job with her excellent flag design, and I cannot wait to fly it in the Village
of Middleburgh on Heritage Day.”
As the winner of the People’s Choice,
Ava will be receiving $50 and a flag with her design will be ordered and flown
as part of the Village’s Heritage Day festivities on Friday, August 23. All
funds for this contest are donated by members of the Village Board of Trustees.
“We are truly blessed that Ava, Hunter, Rivo, and Zoe answered the Village’s
call by participating in this project, and they all did a wonderful job,” the
mayor commented. He concluded, “Special recognition is owed to Middleburgh
Central School Teachers Katelynne Schuttig and Jason Dannible, who played a big
role in this project’s success and encouraged their student’s participation.”
