"Clinton City officials have taken
the first step toward establishing a new city seal and a new city flag. The
council approved the first reading the ordinance to adopt the symbols designed
by a local teen. The council did not discuss or comment on the proposals. The
ordinance must be passed at two more readings before it is finalized.
Morgan Wehling presented his ideas to the council a few weeks ago. As part of
the process, the council also approved a series of resolutions to be able to use
the symbols. The council approved deals with Wehling to use his proposals. The
city paid $100 for the rights to use each of the designs.
In a related
deal the city paid one-hundred dollars to Greg Keister for the use of a picture
of the riverfront lighthouse. The city uses that symbol in the city newsletter
and it is used in the proposed city seal.
In the process the city also
made a deal with the person who designed the Welcome To Clinton design that was
part of the Great Places effort in 2007. Lisa Fontaine, an Iowa State University
student at the time, developed the design as part of project.
