About UNIDO

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization promotes the industrial advancement of developing countries through technical assistance, advisory services and training.
Blas Delgado Ortiz, 24 June 2000

UNIDO was established on November 17, 1966 by the UN General Assembly when it passed resolution 2152 (XXI) to promote and accelerate the industrialization of developing countries, which were emerging from decolonization in record numbers and with little to no industrial base. It currently comprises 172 Member States. The flag is the logo in reversed colors (that is white lettering over blue background) in the middle over a blue background.
