The City

From the site of Ukrainian Heraldry:
"The first mentions are known since 1647. At the request of the proprietor of city Pavlo Teterya (in 1663-65 - the hetman of Right-bank Ukraine) Rafalivka has received at May, 22, 1666 the royal privilege on the Magdebourg right and the sanction to realization of 4 fairs and tender. For difference from settlement Rafalivka since 1946 it is renamed to Stara (old) Old Rafalivka. During the second world war the strong point of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army which struggled for independence of Ukraine here was and was at war against fascist invaders, groups NKVS and the Polish gangster formations who terrorized local population. For granting of support the UIA city was burnt by the Soviet chastisers."
