Background

The Missenyi District is one of the eight districts of the Kagera Region in the north of Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Uganda, to the east by Bukoba Rural District, to the south by Karagwe District and to the west by Kyerwa District.

Missenyi Kingdom flag

The former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, was crowned as Omukama (King) of the Missenyi people.   The Missenyi flag is probably a light-cream and golden-yellow vertical bicolour, the predominant colours of its shield.

The Arms of the Missenyi Kingdom comprise a light-cream and golden-yellow African shield, bordered in gold (note, the black discs & white upright “pole” are part of the costume, i.e. buttons & zipper). Crossed spears in gold, with below a crouching golden-lion, head to the left tail raised and curved to the right (as with the neighbouring Buganda).
