Flag of Ürgüp

The flag of Ürgüp (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".

The emblem, adopted in February 2020 by the Municipal Council, was designed by Zafer Türkmen, member of Erciyes University (Kayseri) and TÜBITAK.

The emblem features two colored elements representing the fairy chimneys known as the Three Beauties, and the area as the Land of Fairy Tales. The road separating the two elements is an invitation to come to Ürgüp; the whole emblem can be seen as a smiling face inviting to come back very often to the place.
The emblem is shaped like a "Ü", for "Ürgüp". The two elements bent to each other as a symbol of sincerity and tolerance.
The emblem also represents air balloons, or a paragliding wing in rear view.

The emblem features three primary colors - red, blue and yellow -, representing Ürgüp as a cradle of civilizations, with shade gradients representing common life and past and present's common denominator.
The emblem is scientifically (sic) based on the golden number, as is the font type, specifically designed.
The vivid writing emphasizes Ürgüp as "Festivals' Town".
The emblem appears with the same visual quality on various supports and in different sizes.

The fairy chimneys have been formed as the result of the erosion of this tufa layer, sculpted by wind and flood water, running down on the slopes of the valleys. Water has found its way through the valleys creating cracks and ruptures in the hard rock. The softer, easily erodable material underneath has been gradually swept away receding the slopes and in this way, conical formations protected with basalt caps have been created. The fairy chimneys with caps, mainly found in the vicinity of Ürgüp, have a conical shaped body and a boulder on top of it. The cone is constructed from tufa and volcanic ash, while the cap is of hard, more resistant rock such as lahar or ignimbrite. Various types of fairy chimneys are found in Cappadocia. Among these are those with caps, cones, mushroom like forms, columns and pointed rocks.
