The municipality of Kozan (127,926 inhabitants in 2012, 79,943 in the town proper; 18,726 ha) is located 70 km north-east of Adana.

Kozan Belediyespor was established in 1955, as Kozanspor, and renamed in 1991, when the club was taken over by the municipal administration.
The club won in 2015 the top amateur league and was promoted to the lowest professional league, where it had already played from 1986 to 2001.
