Background

Togo is divided into five regions.  These are, from north to south: Savabes, Kara, Plateaux and Maritime.  The regions are sub-divided into 35 prefectures, which in turn, are sub-divided into communes.

Maritime is located in the south of the country and borders the Bight of Benin on the Atlantic Ocean.  It is the smallest region in terms of area but it has the largest population.  The national capital, Lomé, is situated in Maritime and also serves as the regional administrative centre.

The prefectures of Region Maritime are:
    Avé
    Bas-Mono
    Golfe
    Lacs
    Vo
    Yoto
    Zio
