Description

One method from the National Heritage Board, along with civic groups:

1. The flag is removed from the pole and held flat.
2. The bottom white half is folded under the red portion. The red should only be visible after this point.
3. The width is folded again, making where the crescent and stars visible on both top and bottom.
4. Fold the flag again width wise.

However, this method was employed during the state funeral of former President S R Nathan in 2016. As of an email to me by the NHB 16 October 2018, this is considered by their office as the standard method:

1. The flag is removed from the coffin and held flat by the honor guard.
2. The bottom white half is folded under the red portion. The red should only be visible after this point.
3. The width is folded again, making where the crescent and stars visible on both top and bottom.
4. Fold the flag again width wise in roughly 1/4th sections. These folds will go under the held flag.
5. Make the next fold where the edge of the furthermost star meets as the boundary line for the fold.
6. Take the hoist end of the flag and fold it under the previous folds to keep everything from unfolding during the presentation.
7. The result is a square shape and it is presented to the next of kin.
