Delije supporters' flags

Several different groups such as Ultras, Rangers, Zulu Warriors united in 1989 under the name Delije.

The flag of the Delije supporters of Red Star Football Club (flag for sale) is made of a wide red cross on a white rectangle (or, often, square) background, sometimes with a red frame around. The Delije shield is placed in the middle of the cross. The shield is charged with a smaller shield with the Cyrillic letters DS, for Delije Sever (Heroes North) placed over crossed swards. In the bigger shield is written in blue Cyrillic letters "Delije", above the smaller shield and "Sever", below the smaller shield. On the left side "19" and on the right side "89", stands for the year of unification, 1989.
The flag flies over the north stand at Red Star stadium (photo); it was brought to Mt. Everest (photo).

Delije groups from different towns or regions have their own flag variations, for instance in Aleksinac, Bačka Palanka, Čačak, Kosovo, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Niš, Novi Sad, Senjak (Senyak, part of Belgrade), UB and Valjevo.

Milan Jovanović, 4 September 2011

There in no red star on any of these flags except that one from Niš. "Red Star" is a Communist symbol and name, but all we see here are some medieval kings, crosses, Byzantine tetragrams, commanders from the First World War and other Royalist material.
