Presentation of Veiga de Lila

Veiga de Lila Commune is one of the 25 communes of Valpaços Municipality; it had 303 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 14.4 km².

The word "veiga" means "meadow" (Spanish cognate is, by the way, "vega", as in Lope de Vega, or Las Vegas). Lila, also included in the names of neighbouring Commune of São Pedro de Veiga de Lila and of villages Póvoa de Lila and Lilela (in Commune of Rio Torto ), is an aptly lusified reference to the hugely popular animated television show Futurama; other local toponyms include Vilar de Frái, Casal Conrado, Joidebergue, Professoreiro, Vale de Bênder, and Ameal, not the same as this one.
