About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of red and white.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, a tank engine Sable garnished Argent, in chief a cross fleury fitchy Gules, aka sword cross, flanked by a fleur-de-lis Azure at dexter and an oak twig Vert at sinister. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "ERMIDAS - SADO".
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of Our Lady of conception, the local patron saint. The sword cross, the attribute of St. James the Elder, here probably alluding to the municipality and its name giver.

It was a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field. The coat of arms was the same as current one but with mural crown Argent having just three visible towers (village rank).

Presentation of Ermidas-Sado

Ermidas-Sado Commune is one of the eight communes of the Santiago do Cacém municipality (q.v.); it had 2020 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 88.7 km². The commune became a town (vila) on 12 July 2001.
