About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 19 June 2015

Coat of arms

Shield Argent charged with five bars wavy Azure, over all a bend Gules charged with three crescents Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "RIO DE MOURO".
The bars wavy (river) and the crescents (Moor) probably are canting elements, symbolizing the town's name, which means "river of the Moor".

Flag and arms published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 20 June 1996. Rio de Mouro gained the rank of a town (vila) on 2 July 1993.
