It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Azure, a bundle of five candles Argent, flamed Or and Gules, tied Gules, flanked by two 5-point stars Or, in chief a goshawk Or, charged with an inescutcheon Azure, charged with five plates in quincunx. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "CANDELÁRIA - PONTA DELGADA".
Meaning:
The goshawk is a local symbol of the Açores. The quina is a national symbol. The candles and the stars are representing St. Mary, as Our Lady of the Light patron of the Candlemas Feast, also known as the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on 2 February.
