The shield is Or, the prows of two ships averted Sable and Argent, garnished and decorated traditionally, moving to the flanks, in base five barrulets wavy Vert - Argent - Azure - Argent - Vert, in chief a Marian crown Azure with jewelry. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "GAFANHA DA ENCARNAÇ ÃO".
The ships depicted had been used as barges till the early 20th century, nowadays they are tourist ships for channel cruises. The crown is an attribute of Our Lady of Incarnation, the waves finally refer to sea water and sweet water. The town is located on the shores of the Atlantic and the banks of the lagoon Ria de Aveiro.

Presentation of Gafanha da Encarnação

Gafanha da Encarnação is one of the four communes of Ílhavo Municipality. It had 5362 inhabitants and covers 11,98 km². The commune was established in 1926 and upgraded to a town on 9 December 2004.
