About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure, two fleur-de-lis Or in fess, in chief a 16-point star Or, in base two barrulets wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "FLAMENGOS - HORTA".
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis and probably also the star are attributes of Our Lady of the Light, the local patron saint.
