I spend a month there in 1962 participating in the ethnographic research
of the area to fill the blanks in the Ethnographic Atlas of Poland.
Fascinating town and surrounding villages - remnants of Jewish presence,
Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches and traces of Muslim Tatar influence.
And breathtaking scenery from the hills overlooking the Bug River.
land under cultivation - 81%; forests - 10%.
New Arms and a brand new flag adopted on March 14, 2008 (resolution
# XII/91/08).
"Arms: the brown wisent on yellow background above the combined old
Coat of Armss of Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Kingdom of Poland, on red.
Flag: rectangular piece of white cloth in the ratio of 3:2 with the
Arms placed centrally."
