Polanka Wielka - rural commune, Oświęcim County, Małopolskie Voivodship.
Gmina Polanka Wielka is a rural gmina (commune) in Oświęcim County,
Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village
of Polanka Wielka, which lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-east
of Oświęcim and 46 km (29 mi) west of the regional capital Kraków.
Area: 24.08 sq.km (9.3 sq.mi); Population: 4,136 (2006).
One of the smallest communes in Poland; land under cultivation - 80%;
forests - 10%
First mentioned in 1335.
Soccer (football) team: LKS "Strumień"
Arms and flag adopted on August 10, 2007 (resolution # VII/54/07).
"Arms: on the green field two silver wheels in vertical layout with
six spokes each.
Flag: a rectangle in the ratio 5:8 composed of three vertical bands
in proportions of 1/4 : 2/4 : 1/4 in colors: green-white-green.
In the middle of the wide white band the Arms of the commune are placed."
The commune employs also a fancy standard.
